Prairie Run

Decided to go on a "shaded" run...ha. Apparently, I forgot it was daytime. I did get about 3 minutes of shade but I think it was more from the shadow of DK than anything. 89 degrees with heat index of 98. And it was only 7:45 am. We ran on the Hawthorne trail from Boulware Springs and went on the La Chua trail.

Figured I had no better chance of finishing my first 5 mile run at 10min per mile than a kerosene cat in hell with gasoline drawers on. But then the pace started to feel natural and my hip decided not to scream, at least for now. At mile 1 our pace was 9:34 and all on the road. EZ! Mile 2  and I started to laugh. Port=o=potty and a water fountain at the beginning of the trail. Then the sign to stay away from the bison. So if I the pee gets scared outta me, I have somewhere to wipe down. Ha.

The concrete path goes through a neat little horse barn, then onto the best part, a boardwalk. I felt like Mary Poppins there  was so much pep in my step. Next onto the glitter grass. Definitely smiled when I looked down and the ground was sparkling. NOW this run was worth it. Beautiful scenery. Before I knew it I was over half way and keeping my goal pace. I saw the gators coming up the path and storm clouds approaching so we picked it up. Made it back to the car in 51:13. Stoked for my first 5 mile run after the IT band injury!!
